Most online converters work the same way: your video travels to a remote server, is converted there and comes back as a download. That is slow for large files, and it means a copy of your recording sits on a computer you do not control.

MP4 and MP3: what actually changes
MP4 (MPEG-4 Part 14) is a container: one file that holds a video track, one or more audio tracks and sometimes subtitles. The sound inside is usually encoded as AAC. MP3 (MPEG-1 Audio Layer III) is an audio-only format that practically every player, car stereo and phone can open.
Converting a file from MP4 to MP3 format means extracting the audio track from the video, decoding it and encoding it again as MP3. The picture is discarded, which is why the MP3 is a small fraction of the size of the video.
AAC and MP3 are both lossy, so a conversion can never sound better than its source. If the audio in your MP4 was recorded at 128 kbps, exporting at 320 kbps gives you a bigger file, not a better one. When in doubt, 192 kbps is a sensible choice.

Questions about converting MP4 to MP3
Is this MP4 to MP3 converter really free?
Yes. There is no paid plan, no account and no daily limit.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. The converter is a program (FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly) that your browser downloads once and runs on your device. The video is read from your disk and the MP3 is written back to it. You can check for yourself: after the first conversion, switch off your connection and convert another file.
Is there a file size limit?
We do not set one. The practical limit is the memory of your device, so very large videos can be slow or fail on older phones. On a computer, long recordings are normally fine.
Does converting MP4 to MP3 lose quality?
A little, as with any conversion between two lossy formats. At 192 kbps or 320 kbps the difference is hard to hear. What a conversion cannot do is add quality that was not in the original video.
How long does a conversion take?
Usually a small fraction of the length of the video: a few seconds for a song, a few minutes for a long recording. It depends on your device, not on your connection.
Can I convert several MP4 files at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like, press Convert all and download the MP3 files one by one or together as a .zip.
Can I convert a video from a link?
No. The converter only works with files that are already on your device. It cannot fetch videos from websites or streaming services.
Is it legal to convert MP4 to MP3?
Converting your own recordings, or files you have the right to use, is fine. Copyright still applies: do not convert or share content that you do not have permission to use.
